Early in 2013 I was approached by Rosie Machado from CTN Communications to design their pitch to the Foreign and Commonwealth Office to mount the G8 Summit later that year.

After a lengthy pitch process we won the job in April. Staging a high profile, globally significant event in 12 weeks is a challenge by anyone’s standards, but staging it in a very remote location with limited mobile and internet infrastructure when expecting 600 press and media is an extraordinary one.

 

As 3D designer on the job my brief, working alongside the FOC Appointed Creative Director and representatives from 10 Downing Street, was to design an intimate summit room, leaders lounge and dining room within the existing golf course club house. I also had responsibilities for designing, updating and distributing the masters plans for the site including 30 bilateral meetings, 10 press conferences, 60 media stand-ups, leaders arrivals and group shots as well as a re-styling of all the leaders accommodation.

The Summit, hosted by the Prime Minister, was delivered successfully by over 250 crew.  The venue was transformed after 12 days set up of 42 rooms.  300 G8 country delegates and 600 press and media were welcomed for the 2 day Summit.  50 events were captured by the host broadcast team and 108 TV stations used the host broadcast material, ensuring worldwide coverage.
